Children’s Chant Camp

St. Michael the Archangel Parish’s Children’s Chant Camp provides the perfect setting for children to become eager participants in their Catholic heritage through immersion in the sung prayers of the church.

Children in Grades 3-8 will receive professional instruction in reading traditional English and Latin chant notation, articulating the language of the Church, and employing proper vocal techniques for choral singing, while continuing to develop a lifelong appreciation of their faith. The chants, essential parts of the Mass, and choral works learned during the week will culminate in a beautiful First Friday liturgy presented by the camp participants.

The 2024 Chant Camp meets Monday through Friday, July 29th – August 2nd, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in Fontenay Center on the St. Bernard Church campus, 311 Washington Road, Pittsburgh. Participants will sing for the 7:00 p.m. First Friday Mass on August 2nd at St. Bernard Church.

The fee is $20, and $10 for each additional child per family, which covers the cost of music, instructional materials, refreshments, and a Chant Camp T-shirt for each child. Financial assistance is available for families in need. Please contact Chaz Bowers, cbowers@smapgh.org.

Enrollment is limited, so we encourage you to take advantage of this unique, faith-filled opportunity by enrolling your child today! The last day for this year’s registration is Friday, July 5th. Stay tuned for next year’s dates as well!
