Instrumentalists

Our parish maintains a roster of both professional and volunteer musicians who offer their talents in various ways throughout the year. For Solemn Feasts during the Liturgical Calendar, ensembles of brass, string, woodwind, and timpani are arranged for added festivity. On various Sundays throughout the year, an instrumentalist may be called upon to play an obbligato part in a psalm or choir anthem. Additionally, our organists often use instrumentalists to enhance organ preludes and postludes throughout the year. Instrumentalists who are interested are invited to share their gifts with us in any capacity.

The St. Michael the Archangel Parish Orchestra

The Parish Orchestra allows instrumentalists to share their gifts by coming together for special feast day liturgies, select musical performances, and other musical events. It will at times support the choirs or scholae, or may be featured independently.  Rehearsals will be conducted as determined by the Director of Music based on the needs of the parish.

Although few associate St. Michael the Archangel with music, it is he who will sound the last trumpet at the final resurrection.  “This will be instantaneous, in the twinkling of an eye, when the last trumpet sounds.  It will sound and the dead will be raised, imperishable, and we shall be changed as well, because our present perishable nature must put on imperishability and this mortal nature must put on immortality.” (1 Corinthians 15:52) (Feast Day: September 29)
